PROVINCETOWN — Ronald Edward Amaral of Provincetown died on July 16, 2008, at his home, following a long illness.

Born in Boston, he was the son of Edward and Doris Amaral. He was a resident of Provincetown for all of his life. After graduating from high school in 1955, he joined the Navy and was stationed in Japan. He was discharged in 1959. He spent most of his working years as a mechanic for Duarte Motors in Provincetown. In 1986, he went to work at Lands End TruValue Hardware, until he retired due to poor health in 2003.

Besides his family, serving his beloved St. Peter the Apostle parish was where he found the most joy. He served in the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was also a Eucharistic minister and a lector at Mass. He was a third degree member of the Walter Welsh Council of the Knights of Columbus and a fourth degree member of the Bishop Feeney Assembly.

Mr. Amaral is survived by his wife, Evelyn A. (Ward), whom he married in 1971. He is the father of Carolyn Wighte of Connecticut, Joseph Ward of Florida, Christopher Ward of Centerville, Susan Cook of Mattapoisett, Evelyn Costa and Eileen Grosso, both of Provincetown, Dot Morris, John Ward and Marianne Ward, all of North Truro, and the late Carol Ann Ward. He was the brother of Loretta Alves of North Truro. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St., Provincetown, on Saturday at 9 a.m. Visiting hours are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gately McHoul Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown. Burial will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Provincetown Rescue Squad, 25 Shank Painter Road, Provincetown, MA 02657.

Dear Evelyn,
Sorry to read about Ronnie's passing. I worked with him at Duarte's years ago until they closed. I still remember all the old gang that worked there. I haven't been to P'town for quite a while, but when I did manage to get to Town ,I'd stop in at Land's End to see him. I'll never forget the ole Amaral. Take care, Steve Zawalick

Hello, Evelyn just saw this morning passing of your loving husband Ronnie and want to send my condolences as I will remember him in my prayers, as I have fond memories of him when he worked at Duarte Motors when my aunt Barbara Cross Murchison was a bookkeeper there before she married Powell, so take care for now, always, Tom C.
