Joseph Brickley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 17, 2008.
HARWICH — Joseph F. Brickley, 79, died July 12, 2008, in Harwich. He was with his wife of 57 years, Anne (Hartigan) Brickley.

Mr. Brickley was born and raised in Charlestown. He graduated from Boston English High School and Boston University, class of 1952, where he was class president and a Phi Beta Kappa. Prior to college, he served in Japan with the Army Infantry in World War II.

Immediately after graduation, the Brickleys moved to Schenectady, N.Y., where they started their family. Joe worked for the General Electric Co., writing and producing corporate films and TV shows. His career took him to New York City. The family settled in Westport, Conn., and Joe commuted into the city.

After being with GE for 15 years, Joe left to form his own company based in Westport. This allowed him to write while spending more time with his family. He wrote and produced corporate communications for many Fortune 500 companies, among them Eastman Kodak, GE and IBM. Joe was an avid swimmer and swam at Burying Hill Beach and the Westport YMCA as often as he could.

In 1994, Joe and Anne retired and made their beloved second home in Harwich their permanent home, where they lived for the past 14 years. They lived on Buck's Pond, and Joe swam regularly for many years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Neil C. Brickley, of Wethersfield, Conn. He was predeceased by a son and a daughter, Mark D. Brickley and Allison J. Brickley.

Joe had four wonderful grandchildren: David Brickley and Robert Brickley of Wethersfield, Conn., and Erin Brickley and Sean Brickley of Huntersville, N.C.

The family would like to acknowledge the loving care that Joe received in the past year from Elaine Daly. This enabled him to remain in his home despite declining health.

Services are private.

The Coutinho-Boisse Funeral Home of Harwich is assisting with arrangements. For more information and a personal guest book, or to light a candle, log on to www.cbfuneralhome.com.

My name is Cindy Roessel and I work at the Woodlands Assisted Living in Brewster. I wish to extend my deepest, heartfelt sympathy of the loss of Joe Brickley. He will be greatly missed. I worked on the night team shift and it was always nice to go upstairs and tend to his wife Ann and Joe in the late evening hours. He was a very kind person.

My name is Pat Perry and I work at the Woodlands Assisted Living. I was with Ann the night Joe Brickley passed away and I wish to extend my deepest, heartfelt sympathy to her and her family. I had many good times with Joe, even though his stay with us, after he moved from his home in Harwich, was short. Joe enjoyed coming down to the pub and watching the Red Sox baseball games in the evenings. We had many, nice conversations about his wonderful writings with G.E. I was very happy to have made his acquaintance and be able to assist him while he was with us.
