SOUTH ORLEANS - Peter Jacobson, age 90, of South Orleans, died July 15, 2008, at his home. He is the husband of the late Alice Hamilton.

Peter was born, raised and educated in Quincy, and attended Rutgers and Temple University. Prior to college, he entered the Navy during World War II, serving in the South Pacific.

After college, he moved to Philadelphia and established his own sales agency for the electrical industry, which covered the Middle Atlantic States. He and his wife retired to South Orleans in 1977.

During the 1950s, he took up figure skating and skated as a ice dancer, and was active in Old York Skating Club and Wissahickon Skating Club in the Philadelphia area. While in Orleans, he continued to skate at the Charles Moore Arena. He enjoyed his skating and volunteered as a judge at various skating events.

Besides his skating, he grew up as a member of the Squantum Yacht Club in Quincy, where he learned to sail and enjoyed racing small sailboats and also volunteered as a judge at various sailboat races. He also was a member of the Chatham Swim Club, past commador and active member of the Chatham Yacht Club, and numerous business organizations.

Peter is survived by his children, Peter H. Jacobson and his wife Cathy of Ridgewood N.J., and Alice Ronty and her husband Paul of South Orleans; his brother, Warren Jacobson of Tennessee; and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in The Church of the Holy Spirit, Monument Road, Orleans, on Friday, July 18, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
