Carl Swanson Obituary

SANDWICH — Carl Emil Swanson Jr., 86, of Sandwich, formerly of Foxboro, died Friday, July 18, 2008, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis. He was the son of the late Carl E. Swanson Sr. and Nathalia (Hokinson) Svenson.

Carl was born in Foxboro on Dec. 31, 1921, and was a graduate of Foxboro High School, class of 1939. He also graduated from Bryant College with a Bachelor of Arts in business. He proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II. He and his wife, Phylis (Cronin), were married on Dec. 29, 1945, in Foxboro.

Carl was a product manager at the Foxboro Co. and retired after 42 years of service. He sang bass with the Barbershop Singers and was a ham radio enthusiast.

He was the beloved husband of Phylis M. (Cronin) Swanson; the loving father of Steven C. Swanson of Sandwich and Carla M. Suto of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and the brother of Dorothy Law of Foxboro and Anne Schulz of Winthrop, Maine, and Vero Beach, Fla.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours today, Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxboro. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 23, at 11 a.m., at the Union Church of South Foxboro, 384 South St. For additional information, please contact 508-543-5471. Mr. Swanson was the nicest gentleman I had the pleasure of serving every three months. He would come into the Collector's office to pay his property taxes and always had a smile and kind words. It was always nice to see him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. I am so sorry for your loss.
