Robert T. Mulcahy

POCASSET — Robert Thomas Mulcahy, 82, of Pocasset, died Monday, July 21, 2008, at home of natural causes. He was the husband of the late Barbara A. Mulcahy for 53 years. She died in 2001.

Bob was born in Boston. He served in the Navy during World War II. He graduated from Holy Cross College in Worcester, class of 1948. He was named a Purple Knight in the Holy Cross Alumni Association. A resident of Pocasset for 35 years, he was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Pocasset and a member of the Pocasset Golf Club.

Bob was the founding executive of Casualty, Life & Surety Companies Claims Bureau.

He was a devoted grandfather to his 17 grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his six children, Jean Vanek and her husband, John, of Olympia, Wash., Robert Jr. of Gilroy, Calif., Christine Mackay of Burlington, Richard of Boston, Gerard and his wife, Marie, of Merrimack, N.H., and James and his wife, Minerva, of Torreon, Mexico; his brothers and sisters, Jack of Malden, Sr. Christine, SSND of Baltimore, Md., Bill of Melrose, and Betty of Nashua, N.H. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 584 West Falmouth Highway, West Falmouth. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 841 Shore Road, Pocasset. Burial will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:30 p.m.
