Sandra Russell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 9, 2008.
WELLESLEY HILLS — Sandra Keery Russell, of Wellesley Hills and Sagamore Beach, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008.

Born on May 5, 1956, Sandra grew up in Weston. She graduated from the Katherine Gibbs School in 1975 and had a successful career as a legal secretary at the firm of Palmer and Dodge in Boston.

In 1984, she married Gordon C. Russell and moved to Wellesley Hills, where she and her husband raised their two children.

Sandra was an active member of the Wellesley community and specifically of the St. John's School, where she spearheaded fundraising events and was most proud of being a dedicated "pizza mom."

She and her family summered on Nantucket, where in 1997, Sandra and her husband founded in the pink, the first Lilly Pulitzer Signature Store. Sandra embodied the spirit of the happy, fun and carefree lifestyle this brand represents. Her efforts led to the expansion from the original Nantucket location to the current eight stores in Massachusetts.

Sandra is survived by her loving husband, Gordon C. Russell, of Wellesley Hills; their beloved children, Gordon B. "Buck" Russell and Jonathan M. Russell; her mother, Constance F. Keery, of Plymouth and St. Croix; her siblings, Lynne K. Ellis and her husband, Keith, of Sagamore Beach, Thomas R. Keery II and his wife, Laura, of Weston, David G. Keery and his wife, Nina, of Newburyport, and Scott E. Keery of Kingston; her brothers-in-law, Benjamin W. Russell of Newburyport, and Winfield P. Russell and his wife, Elizabeth, of Rowayton, Conn. Sandra is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Sandra was predeceased by her father, Thomas D. Keery.

Funeral will be held from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Route 16), Wellesley, on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow in St. John the Evangelist Church, Wellesley Hills, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours are Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be private in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.

Dear Gordon,
I did not know or else I would have made sure that I was in attendance at the wake/funeral. I grew up with both of you in the wonderful 70's when our hair was long and smiles wide. I admired and liked Sandra so much. I only wish that I had known her as an adult. My husband Charlie was your barber and I kept up with your lives through those conversational hair cuts!
I am so very sorry for your loss of Sandra. Stay well Gordon.
Fondly, Judy and Charlie

Dear Gordon and all of the Russell/Keery family,

I have so many wonderful memories of 'growing up' with Sandra. Sandra was compassionate in all things, adding pizzazz and laughter to everything we did! She was giving, talented, creative, humble, generous and most of all FUN, always laughing and ready to go at a moment's notice. If there is such a thing as an 'earth angel', she certainly was one and I feel so lucky to have had her in my life.

'In the sweetness of friendship, let there be laughing and sharing of pleasures, for in the dew of little things, the heart finds it's morning and is refreshed'. (Kahlil Gibran)

Sandra was such a wonderful friend. My love and prayers are with you all.

I didn't know Sandra personally. We used to talk by phone and e.mail and she was always so nice with me. My mother worked for her and loved her a lot. She is so sad and couldn't believe in what happened untill she saw her. Wish God can help all her relatives in this sad moment.

Music, when soft voices die

Music, when soft voices die,
Vibrates in the memory—
Odours, when sweet violets sicken,
Live within the sense they quicken.

Rose leaves, when the rose is dead,
Are heaped for the belovèd's bed;
And so thy thoughts, when thou art gone,
Love itself shall slumber on.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived
okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here
is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you
every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up
and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were
gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.

There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for
me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's
chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life
on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not
be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But
one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a
time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will
give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day
was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the
way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick
him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in
your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember
you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Gordon,

I am deeply, deeply sadden in hearing about the passing of Sandra. In sharing my thoughts and feelings, as with all our childhood friends, sister's and brother's, Sandra was a hugh part of all our lives as we grew up together, touching our hearts and feelings in many, many ways. I always remember her as a beautiful human being of exuberate personality matched with Sandra Keery smiles. She was most influently affectionate in kindness, caring and always unselfishly thinking of others. Sandra, with you and your family, will forever be in my family's thoughts and hearts.

Take care,

Mike
