Francis Ryan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 12, 2008.
MEDFORD — Francis L. "Frank" Ryan, of Medford, formerly of Centerville and Osterville, passed away on July 29, 2008, at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington.

Born in Chicago, he was the son of the late Richard M. and Mary J. (Hyde) Ryan. As an electrical engineer specializing in transportation engineering, Mr. Ryan was instrumental in the design of the public transportation system in Buffalo, N.Y.

As his occupation required, Frank was a stickler for details. This trait contributed to his artistic abilities, in which he enjoyed painting in watercolors. He also took an interest in shipbuilding.

Frank was the beloved husband for 56 years of the late Dorothy F. (Miller) Ryan and the loving father of Patricia D. Ryan of Virginia Beach and the late Dorothy Louise Lewis. He was the dear brother of Dr. Richard M. Ryan Jr. of Winchester, David W. Ryan and Florence Brown, both of Ohio, Elizabeth A. Lenny of Florida and Mary Patricia Ryan of Danvers, and is further survived by his grandchildren, Rebecca and Joshua Lewis.

A memorial Mass will be held in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, on Monday, Aug. 25, at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Memorial gathering to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Massachusetts Association for the Blind (MAB) Community Services, 200 Ivy St., Brookline, MA 02446. Arrangements are by the Costello Funeral Home of Winchester, 781-729-1730.
