Elizabeth Alex Obituary

CANTON — Elizabeth (Eliopoulos) Alex, 99, of Canton and formerly of South Yarmouth, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at the Hellenic Nursing Home in Canton, after a lengthy illness.

She was the devoted wife of the late Peter J. Alex, who died in 1976. They had been married since 1929.

Born in Athens, Greece, the oldest child of the William Eliopoulos family, Mrs. Alex came to the U.S. as a bride and lived in Medford, Codman Square, Dorchester and South Yarmouth.

During her retirement years, she traveled many times to Greece to visit her family in Athens and her husband's family in Patras.

She enjoyed entertaining her family and her many friends around her table.

She is survived by two sons, William Alex and his wife, Karen, of Dennis, and James Alex and his wife, Gale, of West Yarmouth; a sister, Dina Economou, of Athens, Greece; four grandchildren, Peter James, Charlotte, Peter William and Beth Ann; three great-grandchildren, Ilya, Sasha and Patrick; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, George Alex.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1130 Falmouth Road, Centerville. Interment will follow in Ancient Cemetery, Yarmouthport.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hellenic Nursing Home, 601 Sherman St., Canton, MA 02021, or to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1130 Falmouth Road, Centerville, MA 02632.
