FALMOUTH — C. Russell "Red" Phillips, 82, loving father and grandfather, died on Aug. 20, 2008, at the JML Care Center in Falmouth.

Born and raised in Roslindale, he was a resident of Falmouth for more than 50 years. He was the son of the late Charles W. Phillips and Florence Irene Saunders.

He was a faithful Christian and a longtime member at the Falmouth Baptist Church, where he drove the Sunday school van for many years in order to bring children to church to learn about Christ. He spent a long civilian career at Otis Air Force Base, from which he retired in 1989. He was also a devoted fan of the Boston sports teams.

He is survived by a son, Scott Phillips of Rutland, Vt.; two daughters and their husbands, Melanie and John Faulkner of Stratham, N.H., and Laura and Ken Perkins of Swampscott; four grandchildren, Timothy and Olivia Faulkner and Spencer and Quinn Perkins; a sister and her husband, Elaine and John Buker of Lillian, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two sisters, Doris DeFuria and Pauline Foley.

Visitation is on Friday, Aug. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main St., in Falmouth. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Falmouth Baptist Church.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory either to the Falmouth Baptist Church, 60 Central Park Ave., Falmouth, MA 02540, or to the JML Care Center, 184 Ter Heun Drive, Falmouth, MA 02540.

So sorry to hear about Red. I was his homemaker for a few years and he was one of my favorite clients. He was talked very lovingly about his family and friends. My condolences.
