John Stobbart Obituary

CENTERVILLE — John William Stobbart III of Centerville, formerly of Sandwich and Port St. Lucie, Fla., died at Cape Cod Hospital on Sept. 4, 2008.

He was the husband of Marion (Shepard) Stobbart for 59 years; father of John of Centerville, Jane Hayward of Sandwich, Christine Irving of Sandwich, Elizabeth Damiecki of Centerville, and Robert of Nantucket. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and one great- grandson.

Born in Milford, he graduated from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture in 1946. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. Mr. Stobbart was employed by AT&T for 30 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 188.

He loved gardening, singing, swimming, playing the piano and fishing.

Services and burial with military honors were held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center, Cape Cod Hospital, P.O. Box 640, Hyannis, MA 02601.
