Joseph Smith Obituary

GILFORD, N.H. —

Joseph G. "Bud" Smith Jr., 90, of Gilford, died at the New Hampshire Veterans Home, Tilton, on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008.

He was the widower of Jean P. (King) Smith, who died in December, 1992.

Mr. Smith was born on June 9, 1918, in Somerville, Mass., the son of Elizabeth (O'Neil) and Joseph G. Smith Sr.

Mr. Smith served in the Navy during World War II. He lived in Burlington, Mass., for many years and then moved to Sandwich, where he lived for 20 years. In 2004, Mr. Smith moved to the Lakes Region.

He worked at the Boston Naval Shipyard for many years, retiring in 1985.

Mr. Smith is survived by two sons, Gregory Smith and Edward Smith, both of Gilford; three daughters, Linda Brumis of Atkinson, Diane Seuss of Belmont, and Wendy Conner of Santa Barbara, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a nephew and four nieces.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday (today), Sept. 17, 2008, from 3 to 5 p.m., in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at 2 p.m., in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Vererans Home, 139 Winter St., Tilton, N.H. 03276.
