Margaret Mary "Maggi" Fields

NEW BEDFORD — Margaret Mary "Maggi" (Ghimussi) Fields, 90, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, in Taber Street Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Bedford. She was the wife of the late William P. Fields.

Born in Fairhaven, Ms. Fields was the daughter of the late George F. and Anne M. (Tarvis) Ghimussi. She spent her youth in Fairhaven and lived in Provincetown for many years before returning to Fairhaven in 1991 when her husband passed away.

She was a graduate of Fairhaven High School and the former Swain School of Design in New Bedford. She was a chef at Cape and Manor in Provincetown before retiring in 1986.

An accomplished artist, she studied under the late Jim Parr. Ms. Fields won first place at the age of 80 from the Fall River Arts Association for an oil painting she had done, and an honorable mention for another oil painting at the Fairhaven Homecoming Fair.

Ms. Fields also enjoyed gardening and music. She was very close with her family, having raised her brother John.

She is survived by one son, William Fields and his wife, Ellen Amanda, of Fairhaven, a sister, Geraldine Dutra and her husband, Gordon, of Yarmouth, granddaughter Kristen Anne Fields of Fairhaven, and a niece, Robin Margo, of Port St. John, Fla. She was the sister of the late John and George Ghimussi.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Waring-Sullivan Homes of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven. A funeral service follows at 2:00 p.m. in the First Congregational Church, 34 Center St., Fairhaven. Relatives and friends invited.
