Eleanor Gonsalves Obituary

TRURO — Eleanor M. Gonsalves, 84, of Truro, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at Liberty Commons Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center in North Chatham.

Born in Truro, she was the daughter of the late Joseph W. Noons and Annie M. (Francis) Noons. Mrs. Gonsalves was a lifelong Truro resident. She graduated from Provincetown High School in 1942.

Following high school, she went to work at the Wellfleet Curtain factory. In the mid-1940s, she changed jobs and was employed at the old candle factory in Truro as well as Scott's Chowder House, where she worked as a waitress.

In 1946, she married Walter A. Gonsalves, who currently resides in Clearwater, Fla.

Around the late 1970s, she went to work at the Tides Motel as a chambermaid, where she remained for 19 years.

Her first love was her family, but she also enjoyed painting, music and dancing. In later years, she participated in programs at the Council of Aging in Truro.

Mrs. Gonsalves is survived by a daughter, Marjorie Corea and her husband, Joseph, of North Truro; two sons, Walter D. Gonsalves and his wife, Debra (Peters) Gonsalves, of Provincetown, and Alan W. Gonsalves of North Truro; two granddaughters, Shannon Perry and Abbey Corea; two grandsons, Matthias Burt and David Gonsalves; and five great-grandchildren, Jordan Carr and Amanda, Mackenzie and Megan Perry, and Mya Gonsalves.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St., Provincetown, on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at 10 a.m.

If desired, memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Truro Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 2030, Truro, MA 02666.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Gately-McHoul Funeral Home of Provincetown.

David , Debby and the whole family, my prayers and thoughts are with you at this time of loss. GOD will give you all the strength and love for one another to prevail.
