Marie A. Bevis

BOURNE — Marie A. (Akeke) Bevis, of Bourne, and formerly of Bridgewater, passed away at Brockton Hospital, on Sept. 23, 2008, while surrounded by her family. She was 77.

Born in Bridgewater, Marie attended Bridgewater Academy. In her younger years, she worked at the Bridgewater Town Hall and Bridgewater Credit Union. She retired in 1990 from Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School after more than 20 years of employment as an administrative assistant.

Marie enjoyed wintering in Jupiter, Fla., and was the past president of the Catholic Women's Club of Bridgewater.

She was the daughter of the late Farris and Rose (Marzelli) Akeke; loving wife of the late Edward J. Bevis; loving mother of Christine M. Bevis of Wareham, Kenneth E. Bevis of Georgia, and David A. Bevis of Bridgewater; proud grandmother of Melissa, Nicole, and Megan; and sister of the late Richard Farris. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home (formerly Prophett's), 98 Bedford St., (Route 18), Bridgewater. Visiting hours are 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Interment to be held at a later date.
