Nancy Hastings Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 9, 2008.
SOUTH YARMOUTH — Nancy Z. Hastings, 87, of South Yarmouth, died at home on Nov. 6, 2008.

She was married for 63 years to John A. Hastings, local inventor and businessman. He preceded her in death in 2007.

Born in Pennsylvania to Rev. Dudley and Erdine Zuver, she moved with her mother and father to Short Hills, N.J., where Rev. Zuver was a minister and writer. She attended St. Mary's Hall in Burlington, N.J., and then Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa.

Nancy Hastings was a summer resident of Wellfleet, prior to marrying and settling in Bass River. She loved art, and she expressed her own creativity as a jewelry designer, painter, furniture decorator, gardener and doll maker. She created innumerable textile handiworks for the pleasure of her family and friends. Nancy was also a member of St. David's Episcopal Church in South Yarmouth.

She is survived by a daughter, Judith Lawrence, of Sterling; son Peter (Laura) of Chicago; son Samuel of Portland, Ore.; and son Arthur (Diane) of South Yarmouth. She also leaves nine grandchildren.

In the spring the family of John and Nancy Hastings will celebrate a memorial service and committal.
