John Harty Obituary

DENNISPORT — John J. Harty, 82, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side Nov. 18, 2008, after a brief illness.

He was the only son of James Harty and Anna Pauley Harty. Raised and educated in Waterbury, Mr. "Doc" Harty joined the Waterbury Fire Department in 1952 and retired with 25 years of service in 1977. While on the fire department, he spent most of his years as a paramedic on the emergency and rescue car. After his retirement from the Waterbury Fire Department, John was employed at the Waterbury Girls Club until moving to Dennisport in 1990.

John leaves his wife of 61 years, Mae (Mary) Broderick Harty; a daughter, Jacklyn Anne Harty O'Donnell of Waterbury, Conn.; a son, Brian Harty; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Harty of Pembroke; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, from the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, Main Street, West Harwich, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. from Holy Trinity Church, West Harwich. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dennis Rescue Squad, 883 Main St., West Dennis, MA 02670, or VNA of Cape Cod, 255 Independence Road, Hyannis, MA 02601.
