Eugenia Connolly Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 7, 2008.
DENNIS — Eugenia D. Connolly of Dennis and Cotuit passed away in the early hours of June 15, 2008, after a period of declining health. She was the widow of the late Leo W. Connolly of Brookline and Hingham.

Eugenia was born in Quincy and attended Boston Latin High School. She worked at the Harvard Business School as a secretary in the Department of the Navy, as well as an administrative assistant in the Hingham Public Schools and assistant to the superintendent of schools. Upon moving to Cape Cod, Eugenia worked for the Social Security Administration, holding several positions simultaneously due to her business experience and capabilities.

Eugenia was a dedicated caregiver to her husband and her parents, Elizabeth and Joseph Dergay of Dennis. She enjoyed spending her time working in her yard, as well as sewing, knitting and pursuing other personal development courses. Eugenia was known for her sense of fashion and appreciation of nature's beauty. Her beloved dog Corky was a great comfort and companion to her.

Eugenia is survived by her daughter, Lee Connolly Weill of Cotuit, her son-in-law Norman E. Weill of Cotuit, and her daughter-in-law, Nancy J. Weill of LaGrange Park, Ill., as well as cousins, nieces and nephews on both the East and West Coasts.

A small, private, graveside memorial service was held Sept. 5, 2008, at the Dennis Union Cemetery, in celebration of her life. The Rev. Elizabeth Endicott presided, and a reception followed at the Harvest Gallery in Dennis Village.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the following organizations or charities: Village Improvement Society of Dennis, P.O. Box 779, Dennis, MA 02638-0779; the Cape Cod Museum of Art, Educational Programs Fund, 60 Hope Lane, Dennis, MA 02638; the VNA of Cape Cod, 255 Independence Drive, Hyannis, MA 02601, or the Animal Rescue League of Boston, Cape Cod Branch, 3981 Main St./Route 6A, East Brewster, MA 02631.
