James Sutcliffe Obituary

SOUTH DENNIS — James M. Sutcliffe, of South Dennis, formerly of Newton, died on June 13, 2009, at Epoch of Harwich. He was 97.

Mr. Sutcliffe was born and grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High in 1932, Bridgton Academy in North Bridgton, Maine, in 1933 and Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., in 1938.

James was a homebuilder in Newton, where he had built 60 homes. He later worked as a senior bank examiner for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He retired to South Dennis in 1983 and spent winters in Punta Gorda, Fla.

He was an active member of the Cape Cod Chapter of the Dartmouth College Alumni and the Golden Age Group at the South Dennis Senior Center.

James was married for 62 years to his loving wife the late Marion (Shea) Sutcliffe. He is survived by his daughter, Jill Marion Sutcliffe of South Dennis; granddaughter, Christina B. Gimenez, and great-grandson, Jason R. Gimenez of Oldsmar Fla. He was the last surviving sibling of Grace, Ellis, Thomas, William and Margaret. He is also survived by several nieces and a nephew.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, at 1 p.m., in the Newton Cemetery Chapel, 791 Walnut St., NEWTON CENTRE. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
