NORTH ATTLEBORO — Walter McKechnie, 85, of North Attleboro, formerly of South Dennis, died on Thursday at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.

He was the husband of the late Beverly Ann (Adams) McKechnie.

Born in Rhode Island, he was a son of the late Walter and Ellen (Edwards) McKechnie.

Mr. McKechnie served with the former Army Air Forces during the World War II era.

He was employed as the manager of I.S. Spencer in Guilford, Conn., and later purchased the business. Following the sale of I.S. Spencer, Mr. McKechnie served as a consultant. Upon his retirement to the family summer home in South Dennis, he was employed by Stop & Shop Inc.

Mr. McKechnie returned to North Attleboro in November 2007, residing with his daughter. Prior to returning to Massachusetts, he and his family resided in Clinton, Conn., from 1962-1981.

He leaves three daughters, Rae Ellen Montgomery and her husband Robert Montgomery of North Attleboro, Beth A. McKechnie and her husband Robert Bradley of Franklin, and Sally J. Stone and her husband Gary Stone of Naples, Fla.; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Patricia L. Gaudette and her husband Thomas W. Gaudette of North Attleboro; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John McKechnie and Bessie Barton.

Visitation will be on Saturday, June 27, 2009, from 10 to 11 a.m., in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home — the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave., Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Funeral services will commence following visitation at 11 a.m.

Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, North Attleboro.

Memorial donations in Mr. McKechnie's name may be made to the Community Visiting Nurse Agency, 10 Emory Street, Attleboro, MA 02703.
