Robert Schofield Obituary

MIDDLEBORO -

Robert S. Schofield, aged 84 years, of Middleboro, died on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at Morton Hospital, Taunton, after a brief illness.

He was the husband of the late Harriette (Murdoch) Schofield, who predeceased him on Sept. 26, 2002.

Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Harry F. and Ella (Fickert) Schofield. He was a 1941 graduate of Middleboro High School, and a graduate of Boston Museum of Fine Arts Art School.

Mr. Schofield served in the Navy during World War II, on the USS Jeffers as a signalman third class. He was a commercial artist, having worked for Winthrop Atkins Co., for many years, then for Maxim Motors. He was also a self-employed sign painter.

A member of the American Legion Post No. 64, he was a duck-pin bowling enthusiast, starting at the Middleboro YMCA, and later at Lakeville Recreation. He was an avid sportsman, especially for the Bruins, Red Sox, and the Patriots.

Survivors include a son, Steven M. and his wife Kathryn Schofield of Middleboro; two daughters, Terri-Lynne Schofield of Corpus Christi, Texas, Eileen Ann and her husband Thomas O'Connell of Barnstable; a brother, Howard Schofield of Middleboro; and six grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St., Middleboro, on Tuesday, at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday, from 6 to 9 p.m. Military honors will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, on Tuesday, at 11 a.m.
