James Gomes Obituary
He was born, raised and educated in Harwich. he served in the Air Force for 22 years, retiring as a sergeant.
He worked with his brother Richard for a number of years as an upholsterer until his retirement in 2000.
James was an avid sports fan, walking was his passion and he loved his family and grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Joyce, James III and Jeffrey, all of Harwich. There are four grandchildren, Garrett, Jason, Meredith and Jessica. Mr. Gomes is also survived by his siblings, Richard, Gilbert, Stephen, Adeline, Eleanor, Kathy and Gail, and his uncle and lifelong friend, George Gomes. He was predeceased by his sister Martha Ann. There are many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main St., West Harwich.
A funeral Mass will be on Monday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 246 Main St., (Route 28), West Harwich. A burial will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery of Harwich.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Lupus Foundation of America, 88 Tremont St., Boston, MA 02108.
