SANDWICH - Carroll Vaughn Murdock, 85, of Sandwich, passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, following a brief illness.

He was the husband of Janice (Brown) Murdock.

Born, raised and educated in Troutman, N.C., Mr. Murdock was the son of the late James and Bernice (Arthurs) Murdock. He was a 1942 graduate of Mitchell Community College, and then enlisted in the Navy, serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged with the rank of yeoman first class in 1946. He then continued his education at the National Business College in Roanoke, Va., and later at the Brown University Graduate School of Banking.

Mr. Murdock moved to Cape Cod in 1947 and began a 33-year career at the former Bass River Savings Bank. He retired from there in 1980 as executive vice president. He then worked as a realtor for many Cape Cod Real Estate offices until his retirement in 2002.

From 1973 to 1975, Mr. Murdock was a selectman in the town of Dennis. He was always involved in community service, including Boy Scouts, Kiwanis, the Otis Advisory Council, RSVP and churches in Harwich, Dennis and Yarmouthport.

Mr. Murdock was an avid gardener and loved singing, cars, the Red Sox, his family and his dogs.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Murdock is survived by seven children, Karen Murdock of Homer, Alaska, Kathy Murdock of Harwich, David Murdock and Kristen Graceffa, both of South Yarmouth, James Murdock of Thomaston, Maine, Richard Murdock of Dennisport, and Peter Murdock of Centerville. He also leaves two stepchildren, Laura Hunter and Eric Drifmeyer of Marstons Mills; a sister, Marjorie Rees of Mount Airy, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, in the First Congregational Church of Yarmouth, 329 Main St., Yarmouthport, MA 02675. Interment will be private.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA 02664.
