Mirjam E.T. "Chickie" Chase

NORTH HARWICH - Mirjam E.T. ''Chickie” Chase, 79, died Sept. 23, 2007, at the Eagle Pond Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dennis. She was born in Elmont, N.Y., in 1928 and moved to Carver as a child.

She is survived by four brothers, Rudy, Arnold, Edwin, and Richard Jokinen, all of whom live in Colorado.

She married George H. Chase in 1947 and was widowed in 2003, after 56 years of marriage.

She is also survived by four children, William Chase of Venice, Fla., Deborah Sparrow, of Harwich, Darcie White of Yarmouth, and Elsa Gonzales of North Harwich, seven grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She lost her son George M. Chase to cancer, in 1999.

Chickie was a charter member of the Evangelical Baptist Church in Yarmouth, before changing to the West Harwich Baptist Church in Harwich, where she enjoyed working on several committees. She was also a long-standing member to the VFW Post 8074 of Dennis and Harwich.

She worked for the Harwichport Laundry before working for the Acme Laundry in Hyannis until retiring.

Chickie loved to read, and she bowled in several leagues, and enjoyed watching wrestling, listening to country western music, Irish music, and watching detective mystery programs on television.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at 2 p.m., at the family lot in the North Harwich Cemetery, Depot Road, North Harwich.
