SOUTH YARMOUTH - Dorothy Catherine (O'Toole) McLaughlin, formerly of South Yarmouth, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007 at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Northbridge. She was 98 years old.

She was the beloved wife of J. Francis McLaughlin who died in 1973. They were married 40 years.

Born in Worcester on June 4, 1909 the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Malone) O'Toole, she lived in Worcester until retiring with her husband to South Yarmouth in 1971.

She returned to the Worcester area in 2003.

She was a graduate of Classical High School and Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing. For many years she was a nursing supervisor at City Hospital and later at Providence House in Worcester.

Dorothy leaves behind three children, John, and his wife Mary Lou McLaughlin, Judith and her husband Robert Ryan, all of Worcester, and Dorothy and her husband Daniel Salmon of Sutton; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; as well as nine nieces and nephews.

Her three brothers, Edward A., George L., and Donald L. O'Toole, known in religion as Brother Alois O'Toole CFX, and a sister, Elizabeth Kozlicak, predeceased her.

A dedicated and active volunteer, she was a member of Worcester City Hospital Alumni Association, past president of Worcester Diocesan Council of Catholic Nurses, a eucharistic minister at St. Pius X Church, South Yarmouth; member of St. Francis of Peace Fraternity; member and past president of St. Pius X Guild.

In addition she was a member of St. Vincent de Paul; Dennis Yarmouth Ecumenical Council for the Homeless and Seashell Quilters.

She was the recipient of the Marion Medal and the Margaret Lahey Memorial Award presented by the Fall River Diocese.

She enjoyed her family, home and garden, quilting, oil painting and playing bridge.

Dorothy's family is grateful to the dedicated staff at Beaumont for their compassionate care.

The calling hours are Sunday, Sept. 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester.

The funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 1, from the funeral home with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St., Worcester.

Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester.

The family suggests memorial donations to Saint Francis House, 39 Boylston St., Boston 02116.
