SANDWICH - Philip Joseph Cardarople, 92, died on Oct. 2, 2007, after suffering sudden heart failure.

He was the husband of Florence ''Fudgie” (DeCoste) Cardarople and lived in Sandwich.

Phil was born and raised in Braintree, the son of the late Joseph and Caroline Cardarople. He attended Braintree public schools and later graduated from Bentley College, where he attended evening classes while working various jobs. Growing up, he organized and played baseball in the South Shore League.

As a captain in the Army during World War II, he worked stateside as a finance officer. He settled in Abington, raised a family of three sons, and worked in Boston as an assistant treasurer for the American Locker Co. In the early 1960s, he transferred to Jamestown, in southwest New York, where he was the vice president of finance for the American Locker Co. for 20 years.

Following his retirement in 1975, he returned to his New England roots, moving to Sandwich.

Throughout his life, he was an avid sports enthusiast, organizing and coaching Little League Baseball, and playing football. In his later years, he became a avid golfer. Throughout his life, he was a faithful and dedicated Boston Red Sox fan. He loved the outdoors and was well known for his gardening and for donating vegetables to his friends at his local church.

Phil was an active, lifelong Catholic, involved in numerous church ministries: Eucharist, lector and catechist. He often served as chairman of the Annual Catholic Charities Appeal, was a recipient of the Marion Award from the diocese of Fall River, and was a true believer in volunteerism. Currently, he was an member of the Corpus Christi Parish in Sandwich, where he was well known.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Philip J. Cardarople Jr. of East Bridgewater, Paul F. Cardarople of Southbridge, and Richard D. Cardarople of Kensington, N.H.; four sisters, Vera Cardarople and Jacqui Cardarople of Braintree, Dorothy White of Barnstable, and Winifred Carleton of Brockton; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Grace Venuti, Anthony Cardarople and George Cardarople.

A reception of the body and wake service will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Road, East Sandwich, on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 4 p.m. Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 10:30 a.m., at Corpus Christi Church in East Sandwich, followed by burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Corpus Christi Parish, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Road, East Sandwich, MA 02537, or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Corpus Christi Parish.

Where did the time go. It doesnt seem possible that its been that long now. Ginny will have been gone 8 years this June. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Lenny.
