Dale Gibson Obituary

SOUTH CHATHAM - Dale Franklin Gibson, of South Chatham, died at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, on Sept. 30, 2007.

He was the husband of 60 years to Martha (Brown) Gibson.

Dale was born in Rochester, N.Y., and graduated from St. Lawrence University and the University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Arts degree. He was an Army veteran, stationed in Camp Detrick, Frederick, Md.

He was employed by Rochester Institute of Technology College of Business, where he was a professor of marketing and assistant dean.

A member of the American Marketing Association, he was an active member of the Irondequoit Congregational Church in Rochester. He retired to Chatham in 1987, where he was active in the Retired Men's Club, Camera Club, Artisans Guild, and the Creative Arts Center. He was a carver of decoys and later Santa Clauses, which he became known for.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Peter and wife, Maureen Gibson, of Washington, D.C., Susan and husband, Ronald Johnson, of Doylestown, Pa., David and wife, Donna, of East Lyme, Conn., and Carolyn and husband, Arnie Cary, of Cheshire, Conn.; grandchildren, Emily Smith, Andrew, Scott and Kacey Johnson, Christopher, Colin and Patrick Gibson.

A memorial service will be held in the First Congregational Church, Main Street, Chatham, on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Chatham Ecumenical Council for the Homeless, P.O. Box 81, West Chatham, MA 02669, or The Eldredge Public Library, Main Street, Chatham, MA 02633.

Arrangements are by the Nickerson Funeral Home, Chatham, 508-945-1166.
