David Takagi Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 20, 2007.
SHARON — David Mitsuo Takagi, of Sharon and Scraggy Neck, Cataumet, died suddenly on Oct. 6, 2007.

David was born Feb. 1, 1938, in Sacramento, Calif.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Barbara G. Takagi; and his daughters, Jennifer of Bakersfield, Calif., and Mary Elizabeth of Houston, Texas. He also leaves behind his mother, Sachiye; sister, Miye Takagi; brothers, Keiji and Robert Takagi; and nine nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Taichi, and his sister, Masako Dolan, both of Sacramento.

During World War II, David was interned with his family at the Tule Lake Segregation Center in California. He graduated from McClatchy High School in Sacramento in 1956 and from Sacramento State in 1967 with a degree in civil engineering.

In the 1970s and 1980s, he lived and worked in Iran and Saudi Arabia, where he raised his family and made many lifelong friends. From 1989 to 2002, he worked as a project manager on the Boston Harbor Project. Recently, he served as a member of the board of directors for the Nisei Student Relocation Commemorative (NSRC) Fund to actively support his commitment to higher education.

David and his wife Barbara were also involved in the local chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League. With Barbara, David enriched the lives of many, particularly the young to whom he was like a godfather. He loved fishing, clamming, gardening, home improvement, barbecuing, and entertaining his family and friends.

A service in celebration of David's life will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Falmouth, on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in David's memory may be made to the NSRC Fund Inc. for the David Mitsuo Takagi Tribute Fund, 19 Scenic Drive, Portland, CT 06480.

Gene & I have been friends with Dave & Barb for 40 years. Gene and Dave graduated from Sac State together in 1967 and spent many years hunting and fishing together until Dave & Barb went overseas. We have many wonderful memories of our time spent together.
