Lawrence Lincoln Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 25, 2007.
YARMOUTHPORT — Lawrence E. Lincoln, 80, died after a short stay at Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod in Sandwich.

A native of North Attleborough, he and his family moved to Yarmouthport in 1971. He was married to the late Shirley (Bell) Lincoln, who died in 1978, and who was a Mayflower descendant as well as a descendant of other old Cape families. During World War II, he served in the Navy as a radarman on the USS Huntington. A graduate of Brown University, he retired from the Bank of Boston as an international officer in 1985, after 34 years with its International Banking Group.

He belonged to several Masonic bodies, including Ezekiel Bates Lodge, Rabboni Royal Arch chapter and Bristol Commandery, and was affiliated with Howard Lodge in South Yarmouth. In 2002, be received the 50-year veterans medal from the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. In his youth, he had been a member of the Order of the DeMolay in Attleboro, and later served as an adviser to the youth organization there and on the Cape.

Active in the Episcopal Church, he had been a licensed lay reader for 20 years in Grace Church, North Attleborough, and for 28 years at St. David's Church, South Yarmouth. He had been a vestryman in both parishes, and served as a senior warden and treasurer of St. David's, where he was one of the original incorporators.

He had a lifelong interest in genealogy, being descended from several Mayflower and colonial families in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. His main interest in life though, was his family and he was treasured by them. He was an outspoken proponent for social and environmental stewardship, and for fellowship and peace among mankind.

In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Great Britain, often visiting with his sons and their families, and with friends and cousins in the United Kingdom.

He is survived by three sons and their wives, Steven Lincoln and Tracy Davis of Danville, Calif., Robert and Kathleen Lincoln of Taunton, and LCDR Jeffrey and Lisa Lincoln of St. Augustine, Fla. He is also survived by three grandsons, two granddaughters; a step-grandson and two step-granddaughters; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard F. and Mary G. Lincoln of Pocasset; a sister-in-law, Joan Lincoln of Old Hickory, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late G. Fred Lincoln and Robert L. Lincoln.

A Eucharistic service of thanksgiving for his life will be celebrated at St. David's Episcopal Church, 205 Old Main St., South Yarmouth, on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. Interment will be next summer in the Memorial Churchyard at the family's convenience. Visiting hours will be at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth on Friday, Oct. 26, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Please omit flowers. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601.
