MONUMENT BEACH —

Betsy Henderson Watters, 49, of Monument Beach, passed away at Falmouth Hospital, on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, after suffering from a long illness.

She was the loving wife of Scott Watters, and a devoted mother to Jordan Alexandra, Sierra Marin, and Riley Colin, whom she loved dearly; and a joy to her parents, Dorothy and Fran Henderson of Ludlow. She is also survived by brothers, Wayne Henderson and his wife Inge of Feeding Hills, and Steve Henderson of Centerville; sisters, Janet Bulter and her husband Tim of Yarmouthport, and Victoria McGuire and her husband Rick of Windsor Locks, Conn.; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Carl Watters of Sandwich, and their children, Betsy's brother-in-law, Eric Watters and his wife Giovianna of East Haddam, Conn., and Betsy's sisters-in-law, Lisa Vasile and her husband Rick of Milford, and Debby Cook and her husband Hank of Hadley. She was loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Born and raised in Springfield, Betsy graduated from Technical High School and Springfield Technical Community College. She received her bachelor's degree in sociology/psychology from UMass Amherst. She then received her teaching certificate from Salem State College and her master's degree in teaching of English at Nova University (Florida).

She became certified as a reading specialist at Bridgewater State College, and was working on her dissertation to complete her doctorate in language, literacy and multicultural education at UMass Amherst. She taught in Port Charlotte and Jacksonville, Fla., and Northampton.

She was a reading specialist at Hyannis West Elementary, worked at M.E. Small Elementary School and taught English as a second language for Cape Cod Community College.

Betsy treasured nature, the ocean, travel, and especially the Southwest United States and our National Parks. She was intensely giving and thoughtful, always ready with a helpful hand and sturdy shoulder. She was the friend who never forgot a birthday, anniversary or any special minute she shared with her loved ones.

An enthusiastic lover of music, art, and life, she had boundless energy, empathy, and benevolence for anyone in need. She had a heart that was as big as the sun, and shined just as brightly. Betsy was capable of accepting and celebrating the differences in all human beings. She championed all that was about goodness, kindness and what was right with human endeavors. The better you knew this amazing woman, the more she was able to touch your heart.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday morning, Nov. 16, at the First Congregational Church, 329 Main St., Yarmouthport.

In lieu of flowers, Betsy would have appreciated memorial contributions be made to Zion National Park, Springdale, Utah 84767, or Arches National Park, P.O. Box 907, Moab, Utah 84532.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
