HARWICH PORT — Robert A. Lewis-Kendell, 72, died at Cape Cod Hospital, on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, after a long-term battle with cancer.

Born in Boston, on Aug. 27, 1935, he was the son of the late Harold F. and Hattie I. Lewis. He grew up in Arlington, attaining his Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America, and graduated from Arlington High in 1953.

After earning an associate degree from Boston University and serving six years in the Army, he found a career as a professional with the Boy Scouts, where for 23 years, he served as district executive or council executive in several Massachusetts and Connecticut Scout Councils, specializing in property management and directing camping operations. A second career in fund development gave him opportunities to use his talents with the Plymouth Bay Girl Scout Council, the Charles River Studio Workshop, and several Boys and Girls Clubs and YMCA's in Massachusetts.

In 1993, Rob retired to Cape Cod to co-own the Cranberry Goose Gift Shop in Harwich Port, where he became an integral part of the business community.

He is survived by his husband, Randell R. Lewis-Kendell; his partner emeritus, Candace Dorschied; his daughter, Robin Donofrio and her husband, Michael; his son, Bradford Lewis and his fiancee Crystal Pohlman; his son, Ben Lewis and his wife, Emily; seven beloved grandchildren, Jesse, Skyla, Kayleigh, Benjamin, Mack, Wade and Lilly; a brother, Edward Lewis and his family; a sister, Joanne Dawson and her family; and an extended community of dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main St., West Harwich.
