EAST DENNIS —

Robert Foy, 83, of Holden and East Dennis, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, in Memorial Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.

His wife of 39 years, Dorothy (Kern) Foy, died in 1987. He leaves two sons, Glenn Foy and his wife Tammy of Holden and Robert "AJ" Foy Jr. and his wife Patricia of Dudley; two grandchildren, Brandon and Jamie Foy, both of Holden; a longtime friend, Teddy Budzyna of Cape Cod; and several nephews. His twin brother, John J. Foy and another brother, Philip William Foy, predeceased him.

Born in Plainville, N.J., he was the son of the late Philip M. and Jane (Sides) Foy. He lived 32 years in Holden before retiring to East Dennis in 1987.

After high school, Robert entered the Navy in January of 1943, serving aboard the USS Mona Island in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. He was awarded the American Theatre and Victory Ribbons, Good Conduct Medal, a Letter of Commendation and a Bronze Star, being honorably discharged as a gunner's mate first class in February of 1946.

For 33 years, he worked for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, retiring as a head machinist in 1987. He enjoyed saltwater fishing and was a member of the Massachusetts Lobsterman's Association.

He was an avid NASCAR fan and most of all, loved spending time with his two grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
