Jeanne Saulnier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 2, 2007.
MARSTONS MILLS — Jeanne Clark Saulnier, 76, died at Harbor Point Assisted Living in Centerville, on Dec. 1, 2007, after a long illness.

She was the beloved wife of Rene Joseph Saulnier. They were married in Darien, Conn., on March 16, 1974, and lived in Redding, Conn., until 1993, when they retired and moved to Cape Cod.

Jeanne was born in Yonkers, N.Y., and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Yonkers in 1948. She earned a bachelor's degree in liberal arts and home economics from Skidmore College in 1953. After graduating from college, she went to work in the kitchen department of Westinghouse Corp. until she left to raise her growing family. Later, she worked for a number of years as an administrative assistant for the CEO and owner of New England Envelope Corp.

Participating in church affairs was always important to Jeanne. She served on the vestry of St. Peter's Church in Osterville, as well as on various church committees. She and her husband were active workers for the annual church fair, and they directed the fair one year. She was a longtime member of St. Peter's adult choir.

Jeanne was quite active in the community. Because of her great love of gardening, she was a member of the Hyannis Garden Club, serving as both secretary and treasurer of that organization. She was a member of the board of directors of the homeowners association, where she lived, and was also on the association's Gardening Committee. Her home gardens were admired by all.

She had a great love of the arts. She was a generous donor to the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra and a regular subscriber to their classical series of concerts. She was a regular member and supporter of WGBH in Boston, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Smithsonian Institution. She enjoyed traveling and traveled extensively with her husband in her retirement years. She had great joy in working in her home garden. She loved the beach and walked on a daily basis with some of her neighbors. She also enjoyed working in her kitchen and was an excellent cook.

Besides her husband, survivors include three sons, James R. Case of Grosse Pointe Park, Mich., David E. Case of Jersey City, N.J., and Steven E. Case of Ridgewood, N.J.; a stepdaughter, Linda Chapman of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; and a stepson, Rene J. Saulnier III of Lake Placid, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.

Visitation hours are 3 to 6 p.m. at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road (Route 28), Marstons Mills, on Monday, Dec. 3.

A memorial service will be held at St. Peter's Church, Wianno Avenue, Osterville, on Friday, Dec. 7, at noon.

At Jeanne's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601, or to Alzheimer's Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, 712 Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601.
