Marilyn Cloutier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 2 to Dec. 3, 2007.
OSTERVILLE —Marilyn Ruth (Russell) Cotton Cloutier passed peacefully on Dec. 1, 2007, surrounded by the love of her family and the exceptional caregivers at the Mary McCarthy Hospice House in Sandwich.

Marilyn, predeceased by her husband, Emerson Cloutier, fought a valiant and prolonged battle with ovarian cancer. She was determined to attend the marriage of one granddaughter, Melissa, and the christening of another, Alexa. In addition, she succeeded in celebrating her 80th birthday with her family.

Marilyn, daughter of the late Richard and Viola (Williams) Russell, and sister of Richard Russell Jr., graduated from Milton High School in 1945. She married and moved to Osterville, where she raised her three children. She was a representative for Revlon and EstxE9e Lauder, where she enjoyed helping women bring out their inner beauty through makeup. She received many awards for customer service and sales.

Marilyn was an avid tennis player and loved dancing with her late husband, Emerson. They both enjoyed the snowbird life and being with their many friends in Naples, Fla., and on Cape Cod.

She touched many people with kindness, selflessness, and humor. A special joy during her career was helping women undergoing cancer treatment maintain their confidence and dignity with makeup. She was very proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Marilyn was also a member of Eastern Star.

Marilyn is survived by her son, John Cotton Jr., and his wife, Ann Marie, of Osterville; daughters Marilyn Pullen and her husband, Ron, of Naples, Fla., Cynthia Shulman and her husband, Don, of Marstons Mills; grandchildren Melissa Jansen and her husband, Brent, of Marstons Mills, Andrew Cotton of New York City and Maxwell and Alexa Cotton of Osterville. Marilyn is also survived by four stepdaughters, Judy LeFrancois, Diane Cloutier, Amanda Hronek and Laurie Cloutier. Last, she leaves behind her beloved Yorkie and constant companion, Mr. Trubbles.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Marilyn's memory may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601, www.hospicecapecod.org.

Visiting hours at the John Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road (Route 28), Marstons Mills, will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at the United Methodist Church, 57 Pond St., Osterville, on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I remember Marilyn well when she was married to her second husband Gordon Hall.

My mother and father David and Ruth Payson were very friendly with them and I visted their home in Osterville several times. Mrs. Hall was always very nice to me.

I'm very sorry to learn that she's gone.

Jackie, Candy and Cindy,

I am so sorry to hear about your mother. Jackie came to my brothers service this year and I had a chance to catch up with him on the family. It's been many years since I've seen any of you. Marilyn was a lady in every sense of the word and I recall going to your house as kids, all of us at Joshua's and the Dowes's at the same time. We grew up in a nice neighborhood. Marilyn, my mother and Barbara Hansen all grew up in Milton at the same time and how funny they all ended in Osterville. Please accept my sympathies.
