YARMOUTH — Leslie G. Lawrence, 96, died Nov. 13, 2007, at Mayflower Place Nursing Center, West Yarmouth, after a brief illness.

Les was born in England and became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1940. He was the loving husband of Katherine Lawrence, who died in 2000. They resided in East Dennis for many years prior to Kay's death. Following her death, Les moved to Mayflower Place Residential Community, where he much enjoyed the pleasant surroundings, new friends, and visits from old friends and family.

Prior to moving to Cape Cod, Les and Kay resided in Needham. Les spent most of his working years with the Raytheon Corporation, where he was employed as a design engineer. He was a skilled craftsman and mechanic, and was recognized by Raytheon on a number of occasions for his contributions, particularly to the development of new tools and equipment and the obtaining of government patents. Wood working was a favorite hobby.

Les was a loyal and active parishioner of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Barnstable Village for many years and helped with the Salvation Army Miracle Kitchen and other charitable activities. He was an active member of the Masons.

Les is survived by five sisters, Betty Upham of Williamsburg, Va.; Ruth L. Conley of Center Sandwich, N.H.; Olive L. Picone of Amesbury; Margery E. Knight of Auburn, Ga.; and Rosalie H. Werdin of Laconia, N.H.; and a brother, William Lawrence of Scarborough, Maine. He is remembered fondly by Barbara Hopkins, a relative of his late wife, Kay.

There will be a funeral service at St. Mary's Church, Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at 10 a.m., followed by a committal of his ashes in the church Memorial Garden.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Church, 3055 Main St., Barnstable, MA 02630, and to the Salvation Army Miracle Kitchen, 100 North St., Hyannis, MA 02601.
