Charles Cunis Obituary

SANDWICH — Charles John Cunis, 89, formerly of Plymouth, died on Dec. 3, 2007 at the Cape Heritage Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Sandwich.

He was the devoted husband of the late Isabelle (McCook) Cunis and beloved son of the late Leonard and Monica (Yakavonis) Cunis.

Mr. Cunis was born in Framingham, on June 9, 1918. He was employed for most of his life as a plumber, working for General Electric-Telechrom in Ashland. He served in the Army during World War II as a private first class. He lived in Plymouth for more than 25 years, previously residing in Marlborough.

An avid sports fan, he was proud to have lived to see the Red Sox win two World Series and the New England Patriots win three Super Bowl championships. He was a past member of the American Legion Post No. 40 in Plymouth.

He is survived by three children, Charles L. Cunis and his wife, Elaine, of Lakewood, Colo., and formerly of Brookfield, Conn., Joseph Cunis and his wife, Nancy, of East Sandwich, and Eileen Corbett of Boston. He also leaves his grandchildren, Peter Cunis, Christopher Cunis, Deborah Clark, Kaylyn Cunis, Kerry Corbett, Kelly Corbett and Dustin Corbett. He was great-grandfather to many.

The funeral will take place on Friday morning, at 9:15, from the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at the Church of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha in West Plymouth. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

I had the pleasure of working with Charlie as his aide for the past few months at Cape Heritage. He could always brighten my day, and I looked forward to talking with him. I will cherish the memories of the time I had with him. My sincerest condolences to you in the loss of such a wonderful man. I will miss him always.
