Kimberly Oliver Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 10, 2007.
HYANNIS — Kimberly Ann Oliver, 41, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at Cape Cod Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Kimberly was born in Warwick, R.I., and was raised and educated there. She graduated from Toll Gate High School, and received her bachelor's and teaching degree from Rhode Island College.

She devoted her entire life to teaching and for the past 12 years, she has been an eighth-grade math and science teacher at the Nathaniel Wixon Middle School in South Dennis. Kimberly lived and worked by the motto "No Child Left Behind." She was a caring, dedicated, and devoted friend and teacher to her students. She kept up with their progress through high school, in their later years through college, and into early adulthood. Many of her students know her today in their lives as they did when they were in middle school.

Her other passion in life was her family, especially her nieces and nephews, whom she enjoyed taking fishing, and sharing trips to The Sundae School in Dennisport for an occasional ice cream, her third passion.

Kimberly is survived by her mother, Jean (Leven) Oliver, with whom she lived in Harwich; her dad, Daniel Oliver of Cincinnati, Ohio; her brothers, Michael of Harwich and Brian of Cincinnati; her very close sister-in-law, Jen Oliver of Harwich Port; and her beloved nieces and nephews, Brian, Tobey, Emily, and Chris Oliver. Kimberly also leaves behind the thousands of young students whom she touched with her love and dedication in her career as a teacher.

Her wishes were to be cremated. Following the cremation, a service of remembrance and celebration of her life visiting hours will be held on Wednesday evening from 4 to 7 p.m., with a memorial service at 6 p.m., at the Coutinho-Boisse Funeral Home, 678 Main St., Harwich.

Donations are suggested in her memory to either the American Cancer Society or to the Kimberly Oliver Memorial Eighth Grade Activity Fund, c/o Lisa McMannon, Nathaniel Wixon Middle School, Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660.

Ms. Oliver had a great way of connecting to us students, with stories of Booger Bill that kept us laughing while we learned. I am so grateful that she was able to touch so many lives, yet it is unfortunate that she could not have touched more.
