Paul Dragoo Obituary

Paul Douglas Dragoo
'Doug'
SHERRILLS FORD -- Mr. Dragoo, 52 of Skyline Drive, passed from this life in the early evening of Wednesday, January 30, 2008 after a long and valiant fight against cancer.
He was born in Perry, Iowa on August 24, 1955. Doug began his career racing his own cars then building engines for other racing teams. He held the unofficial record for having the most number one placing engines, which includes engines that broke world speed records for Scott Kalitta Racing in 1994 and 1995. He was a longtime crewman who worked for race drivers such as Jack Wyatt, Scott Kalitta, Doug 'Dougzilla' Herbert, Tommy Johnson, Don 'the Snake' Prudhomme and many others throughout his career. Highlights in his career were wins at the Daytona 500 and on the NASCAR Busch Series. He most recently worked in the engine department at Dale Earnhardt, Inc. Racing was one of Doug's greatest passions. Other hobbies include working on other race cars on the side, drag racing where he owned funny and super comp cars, dirt racing and boating.
Survivors include his wife, Cammie Rogers Dragoo of Sherrills Ford; parents, Paul H. and Rose Lee Kincaid Dragoo; children, Megan Mull of Denver, NC and Mitch Mull of Asheville, NC; two sisters, Judy Bishop and husband, Merlin of Rudd, Iowa, and Deva Moore and husband, Craig of Aubrun, WA; nephews and nieces, Justin, Jeffery and Katie Bishop, and Ian and Tiffany Moore; and his special companion, 'Tripp', his dog.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at 2:00 PM, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with DEI Chaplin Frank Arney officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be private.

Cammie,
We are so very sorry about Doug. He was really a great guy! I have so many fond memories of my older cousin; treehouses, go-carts and then fast cars. Later in life I always enjoyed going to the races when Doug was in town. I feel very fortunate to have known Doug. We will miss him.

It is with great sadness that we have lost a nephew. Even when death comes, we are wrapped in the grace of God. He remains the same, just as His love for us remains constant. It's only when we are distracted from Him, that a sense of loneliness redirects our thoughts away from God's grace and His love for us.

Cammie,
I was very sorry to hear about Doug when Cory Mac called me last week. I met him when he first came on the national event scene and worked with him when I crewed for Roland and Ron Capps at Indy in 1997 or so. He was a great guy and I never heard a bad word said about him. I had lost contact with him when he went over to the NASCAR side of things and did not know that he had been ill. He will be missed.

I was very sad to hear this news. Doug was one of the real good guys in drag racing. It always made me smile when I would hear about him, knowing an Iowa boy made it big. I feel I was lucky to know him. We will keep the family in our thoughts and prayers.
