William Smith
MSgt Smith, 90, of 1809 Newcastle Street, Charlotte, died on Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Veteran's Hospital in Salisbury, NC. He was born in Laurens County, SC. He served in the US Army for 30 years and retired as a Master Sergeant. A graduate of Second Ward High School, he was a Mason with Paul Drayton Lodge, a retired member of the DAV, and a member of Paw Creek American Legion.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church West, Dr. Ricky A. Woods officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.
Survivors are his wife, Ellen N. Smith, daughter, Paula S. Smith, sister, Mildred S. Grier, brother, John Clyde Smith, two grandchildren, LaShonda Coker and Antonio Adams, and one great grandchild, Isaiah J. Coker, all of Charlotte.
Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church West, 1801 Oaklawn Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28216.
Grier Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
