Jon and James Herbert Obituary
Jon Herbert , 17, and James Herbert, 12, died when their Mazda3 collided with another vehicle, according to a statement from Doug Herbert Racing. Witnesses said the second vehicle was a Hummer and that the two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.
Cornelius Police have not confirmed the identities of anyone involved in the wreck or released a narrative of what happened.
The wreck occurred on Jetton Road at Meta Road, near the county’s Jetton Park. The family’s home is also on Jetton Road, which was closed for about two hours while police investigated.
Doug Herbert was in Phoenix for preseason testing when the wreck happened around 10 a.m., the statement said. He was headed home to be with his family.
Condolences can be sent to Raymer Funeral Home, 16901 Old Statesville Road, Huntersville, N.C. 28078.
In lieu of flowers, Doug Herbert asks that people make a donation to the Speedway Children’s Charities in Jon and James Herbert’s name. Bruce Henderson and David Poole contributed.

I know you probably do not know me very well, but I am now in the 7th grade, and remember James and Jon. I was only in the 6th grade when this tragic accident happened, but I just wanted to say that I was not good friends with the Herbert brothers but I do recognize them from school. I just also wanted to say that I hope you are doing well Jessie, I know it must be hard...but I am praying for you family each and every day.

I wish i had found this site earlier. Only the lord above knows how horrible i personally feel and i never even actually meet the boys, God knows how you all are feeling. I talked to Jon a few times before through some of his good friends and he's an amazing person; sweet and very funny too. I was planning to see him this summer but i guess we'll just have to wait a while, but i still do hope i get to see him and James. Everyone, please smile when you think of them, I mean i know that whenever i think of the very few conversations him and I have had, i can only laugh. My prayers to the family, I know it's hard and hope Mister and Misses Herbert are well. My prayers especially to the little sister... It's hard growing without your older brothers and I'm sorry... We have always been NHRA fans and were sorry beyond words to hear of your loss. Im extremely sorry for your loss, i cant even begin to imagine how you could feel right now, Doug i admire you on many levels, as i am a drag racer myself, and the courage you have shown in such a time like this really stands out.
