Roger Lind Obituary

Roger C. Lind went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 26, 2007, at St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula, Montana, with his wife Lynne at his side.
Roger was the son of Charlie and Grace Lind of Park Rapids, Minn., and was born on November 22, 1926. Roger grew up in Park Rapids and graduated from high school there with the class of 1944. He attended high school reunions for many years up until his passing. His father taught him about hunting and fishing in the north central Minnesota area, an affection that would last a lifetime. Roger had one brother, James F. Lind, who died while stationed in Korea. After high school, Roger attended several colleges then was appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point where he obtained his Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1950. After serving several years in the army, he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology where he received his Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1956. Roger married Mary George Cline of Atlanta, Georgia in 1951. They lived in Georgia, North Carolina, Texas and Louisiana until they finally settled in Jackson, Miss., where Roger helped to establish Ware Lind Engineers. During his career in Jackson, Roger became well known and respected in the engineering community of the southern states. As mentioned previously, Roger returned to the Park Rapids area many times for reunions and visiting family until he established a second residence on Lower Bottle Lake. From there, he taught his children the joy of the Minnesota outdoors and how to catch walleyes. Roger and Mary George lived in Jackson for 31 years before moving to Florida, after retirement, to be close to their daughter, Teresa Davis. Mary George passed away while living in Florida. Roger later became a Montana resident and Arabian horse buff, after marrying Lynne Ries of Hamilton, Mont., in 2000. He was a devoted Christian and loved to share his faith and belief in his savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Roger leaves behind his wife, Lynne; and children, Dr. Roger C Lind Jr. of Tenn., Teresa L. Davis of Fla., Jack C. Lind of Texas, James F. "Marty" Lind II of Miss., and Mary Lind-Horwitz of Mont.; as well as Lynne's children, Ron Ries of Wis., and Mark Ries of Mont. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Although he has left these behind, he has rejoined his deceased family, including two grandsons, Conner Lind and Tyler Lind. His stories and poems will be missed around the campfire, but not forgotten.
Funeral services were held on Saturday March 31, 2007, at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids. The casketbearers were Richie Lind, Austin Williams, Preston Lind, Ron Ries, Richard Miller and Hugh Young. He was laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids.
Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist church, Hwy 71 South, Park Rapids, MN 56470.
