Karl Mackey Obituary

KARL A. MACKEY, 78, of Westlake, beloved husband of Leona Mackey; dear father of Lisa Mackey Woods; beloved uncle to Greta Coleman, Laura Carlson, Antoinette Wiitanen and the late Erik Wiitanen, Claudia Toburin, Pamela Ambrose, and Richard Kirk; brother-in-law to Gus Wiitanen and brother to the late Martha Wiitanen; cousin to Donald Nykanen; great-uncle to Wesley, Kurt and Jennifer Coleman, Erin and Richard Carlson, Brian and Mark Wiitanen, and John Toburin. A memorial to celebrate Karl's life will be held on Saturday, October 26, at 2 p.m. at the Karl A. Mackey Auditorium at The Beck Center for the Arts, 17801 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio. My first production upon arriving from nyc was under the direction of Karl Mackey at the Beck Center in 1986, i have always remembered his combonation of toughness kindness,and his serch for truth in what the actor had to say,it has left a lasting empression on my present work as a director/choreographer,

I was 16 or 17 at the time that Karl cast me in "Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker", it was my first prod.

and what a joy to work with and for

Karl.

Years later I found that my older sister Liberty went to high school with Karl.

Rest in peace Karl.
