Never met Mr. Charles, but I sure did listen to him practically every Thursday from 9-midnight. I wondered why he left the airwaves and miss his laid back demeanor and killer tunes.

I am proud to say that Charles was my friend. Our acquaintance started when I used to call into the station and tell him how much I enjoyed his shows, ask him about this piece of music or group. He opened up a whole new world of music for me as well as reminded me of things that I had not heard in years. Eventually, he suggested, in so many words, "Why don't you get your own damned show?". So I did. And in all of the shows that I did, there was no greater thrill than to have Charles call and say that he was enjoying what I was doing. Charles was a very deep person and I already miss him. We will all miss you Charles.

It's so hard to see another good soul leave us. I have to remind myself that we are all going to hop on that last train at the station one of these days, and find comfort in knowing there will be so many friends on board to welcome us when we do. I hope Charles was met by the kindest of angels to sing him home.

Charles had a spiel he'd tell, describing his radio show as an audio canvas, "painting" the airwaves with a song by this artist, a song by that artist, and then some story or perspective. He said he wanted to take his listeners on a guided tour each week, and did, hosting a show as individual as he was.
I can't count the hours I spent at WEVL pledge drives, committee meetings, and other events debating the relative merits of some recording, artist, or genre. Charles was never at a loss for words or opinions, especially when the topic was music, food, or politics. When I broadcast restaurant reviews, he'd call later to critique my review or offer restaurant suggestions. He was one of the most agreeable people I ever disagreed with.
I haven't seen Charles in a while, and I'm going to miss those long, rambling debates. We're all a little poorer in his absence.

I knew Charles as a fellow DJ at WEVL. He started one of the finest music programs that has ever been on the radio. He was a wonderful, warm person who will be greatly missed by the community and all who knew him. My sympathies and prayers are with his family and friends.

Charles was a very cool fellow. We sopent meany a WEVL pledge drive conversing about music and I always enjoyed his "Night Train" program cause he played Billy Cobham, my all time favorite drummer, on it. He was a very gentle, quiet soul and we have missed him being on air and now, in life itself. R I P Charles my friend. Much love to his family and I wish you all strength in the coming days.
