3344 White Settlement Road
Fort Worth, Texas
Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Chapel. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in her honor to the American Heart Association or the Senior Adult Ministry of Connell Baptist Church.
Lillian grew up in the small town of Megargel, where she graduated from high school and was president of her high school senior class. Her college studies took place at North Texas State University and she graduated in 1944 with a bachelor of science degree. This was no small feat, considering her economic resources and the relatively small number of women who were fortunate enough to pursue higher education at that time. Lillian was a career-long teacher in the Fort Worth ISD. She taught at Mary Louise Phillips Elementary, Brooklyn Heights Elementary and Benbrook Elementary. She believed in the uplifting power of education and taught both formally and informally at every opportunity. Lillian was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority throughout her career and even after her retirement in 1977. She was a devoted Christian, serving consistently at Connell Baptist Church since 1951. She taught many ages of Sunday school and actively participated in vacation Bible school. She also sang in the church choir. In recent years she participated in a senior choir by singing and accompanying that group on the piano. Lillian was one of the very first open-heart surgery patients in the United States. In 1956, she had surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., to correct a congenital heart defect. She proved that patients could thrive following such a problem by living the next 51 years to the fullest.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford C. Stegall, a prominent Fort Worth real estate attorney, who died in 1979.
Survivors: Sons and their spouses, John Stegall and wife, Patricia, of Fort Worth and Randy Stegall and wife, Priscilla, of Keller; grandchildren, Kelley Myers and her husband, James, Kara Stegall and Cliff Stegall, all of Fort Worth; great-grandson, Liam Meyers; and stepgrandchildren, Trey and Emily Walton.

You are very lucky to have had the opportunity to be with your mother for so many years and the pleasure of knowing she lived such a wonderful and full life. To Randy and the entire family: Your mom was my 4th grade teacher at Brooklyn Heights Elem. and I never forgot the wonderful lasting impression she left on my life. She spoke of you and the rest of her family with much pride. She truly was a gifted teacher. Take comfort in the knowledge that she is now with the Master Teacher and that you will one day be reunited with her.
May you find peace in your memories of her until then.

John, my heart goes out to you and your family. I'm sorry I never had the chance to meet your mother. Her picture shows kindness and humor in her face. She was a lovely woman. You must be very proud of her academic accomplishments and her career, and her community service through her church is commendable. It is no wonder you turned out the way you have with such a fine example in your mother. I pray God will ease your grief and that in time you will be left with nothing but happy memories of your mom. --Madelina & Logan & kids

Lillian was my "2nd mom" for 40 years. She was a great role model for my children and myself. We will always cherish the memories we have of her and with her. She is finally at home where she has lived her earthly life to end up. She was an exemplary Christian woman and I am proud to have been called her "daughter"! I will miss her so much.
