Donald Eugene Selby

Captain Donald Eugene Selby, United States Navy Retired, 83, of Charlottesville, died early Sunday morning, May 31, 2009, at his home at the Colonnades.

He was born on September 12, 1925, in Camden, New Jersey, to Earl and Mildred Selby. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy; and by his sisters, Myrtle Weber and Thelma Miller.

He is survived by his second wife, Zola; his sons, Field, Steve and Don, and their wives, Clara, Rhonda, and Barbie; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a graduate of Brown University and the University of Virginia School of Law. After beginning his legal career as an assistant city attorney in Alexandria and as an FBI agent, he returned to the Navy and retired from the JAG Corps following more than 30 years of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (http://www.nmcrs.org/), or to Martha Jefferson Hospital (http://www.marthajefferson.org/).

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2009, in the chapel at Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors.

Hill and Wood Funeral Home is assisting the family.
