Jennifer Medina Obituary

MEDINA, JENNIFER ELAINE (GARBART), 28, of North Richland Hills, TX and formerly of Keller, TX, was born December 29, 1979 in West Palm Beach, FL. She is survived by her daughter Katie; parents Kathy and Curtis Blackler of Keller, TX and parents Al and Janice Garbart of Broken Arrow, OK; grandparents: Evelyn Shook of Sapulpa, OK, Curtis and Bessie Blackler of Hannibal, MO and Velma Brandana of Stillwater, OK; sisters: Michelle Constable of Hannibal, MO, Kimberly Banning and Christie Lloyd of Broken Arrow, OK, Kimberley Gaffrey of Bismarck, ND; aunts and uncles: Wayne and Judy Shook, Archie and Denise Shook, Danny and Joan Shook, Bob and Sara Blackler, David and Othelia Blackler, Dan and Dawn Blackler, Sharon and Conn Berkenbile, Maria and Mark Boyles, Lucia and Rex Winchester; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who loved her. Jennifer had a kind spirit, loving heart and was a great mother to her daughter Katie. She was a cherished daughter who enriched the lives of her parents and family. She, being an accomplished clarinetist who loved music of all kinds, received several music scholarship offers upon graduation from high school. She pursued her college studies at the University of North Texas and T.C.C.C. in Ft. Worth, TX. She was embracing the challenge of being a single mother with a career, full of confidence and ready to face the life ahead of her. Tragically, she was taken from us on Sunday, January 13, 2008. Jennifer loved to help others. If her tragic loss of life can serve as an inspiration to other abused women to be safe, her spirit will surely be comforted. She joined those who preceded her in heaven including her grandparents: Truman Shook, Ann and David Garbart and Jim Brandana. Visitation is scheduled from 6-8PM Thursday at Kennedy-Amis-Kennard Funeral Service of Broken Arrow, OK. Service will be held 1PM Friday, January 18, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church of Broken Arrow, OK. Burial will immediately follow in Park Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to D.V.I.S. (Domestic Violence Intervention Service), 4300 S. Harvard Ave. #100, Tulsa, OK, 74135, 918.585.3163. Jennifer was such a wonderful person. She really had an impact on those around her and she will continue to do so as we share her story of domestic abuse to help other women out of similar situations. I will miss her but I know that she is in a happier place now, no longer living in fear.

Well, Im not sure exactly what to write. I've never met Jennifer, unfortunatley, she sounds like an amazing woman.I however, have walked in her shoes. I have also had the great honor of meeting her father briefly. I think that the story that Jennifer and you all have to share with other women in Jennys shoes is an amazing one, yet tragic and unfortunate,I believe that it will surely make the difference that that 1 woman needs to hopefully save her own life. I admire your courage and motivation to advocate and fight for your daughter and others alike. My thoughts are very much with all of those who loved Jennifer.

Jennifer, You were my friend for many years, and I have always hoped the best for you, even when we were mad at each other. I still catch myself saying things in the way you said them to me. I loved you dearly, and you will always be missed by me. I love you as I have few others in my life and hope that wherever you are, you will be happy,

We never fully say everything we should to those we care about. We think that tomorrow will be here to give us that chance. Jennifer, I knew you for just a few months, but in those few months you touched my life. You were a warm and kind person with the most beautiful smile. People felt at ease with you. You will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jennifer's family and friends. We were Jennifer's neighbors for many years. While we didn't know her well, she did touch our lives as we got to see her and her daughter coming and going. All of her former neighbors on Vine Wood have been deeply saddened with this terrible loss. God Bless.

Sweet Jenny.
Though my path and life choices took you out of my life, you were never far from my heart. I kept tabs on you thru Meghan and Bryan. I have fond memories of your younger years and how you were MY girl...after Mom and Dad...and Grandpa of course. I told your Mom how sorry I was not to have known Jenny the woman. But I'm sure your sweet smile and warm and giving heart only intensified as you grew up. I will forever remember you with love.
