Donald Wetmore Obituary

Wetmore, Donald A.
Rochester: Formerly of Oneonta, Donald passed away peacefully July 3, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. Donald was born Sept. 24, 1924 in Bloomville, NY, the son of Edith and Harry Wetmore and grew up in Oneonta, NY. He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Clarke Wetmore; children, Donna (Gyorgy) Polcz, Marc (Andrea) Wetmore, Marcia Wraight, Karen Kintzer, Kevin Wetmore and Lisa Skavienski, who he considered his fourth daughter. He has now rejoined his son, Donald who predeceased him in 1985. Donald also leaves 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grand-children who will cherish his memory. Because of his love for children he will be missed by countless others for whom he provided fatherly love and support when they needed a Dad. Also surviving Donald are his brothers, Harry, William and George. Their reliance on each other as children instilled values in Don that he treasured in life and passed on: dedication to family, hard work, self reliance and the value of humor in the most difficult of circumstances. Donald actively pursued every opportunity to help others. Typical of his giving spirit, he seized the chance to donate his body to research following his demise.
A Mass in Donald's honor will be held Monday, 9:30 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 534 Oxford Street. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the charity of the donor's choice will be appreciated.

Don was a true gentleman when I worked with him at the post office in Oneonta. He was one of those great band of brothers who served the public that I had to pleasure to know and will always remember.

Dear Donna,

I was sorry to hear of your father's passing and of that of your Aunt Beverly. I notice that your aunt's guest book has expired, and I do not have a mailing address, so will you please pass on my concerned greetings to your Uncle George, who was one of my favorite college teachers? The mention in your dad's obituary of the closeness of the Wetmore family, and of the self-reliance and caring that this closeness brought, reflects on all of you.

Anyone around him, if even just for a minute, would leave with nothing less than a smile.

Marie:
My prayers are with you. I was saddened to hear of Don's passing. I remember him as happy person with a good sense of humor & a jaunty walk. I was fortunate to have known him.
Good Providence to you.

Wetmore Family,
I seem to remember you folks living on upper Ford Ave and indeed it was exactly due to people such as your Mom and Dad that made Oneonta such a great place to grow up. My most sincere blessings

I remember the Wetmore's well as our friends and neighbors on Walling Avenue in Oneonta during the 1950's. Sorry to hear about Donald's death.

Since Marc and I have been co-workers, I've truly enjoyed his tender stories about his dad. Since my older son is also a USPS carrier, and ironically was born on September 24 (1976), I believe we were destined to become friends since we both have had the honor of loving hard working, dedicated men.

We will miss him, but because of him I still can't tell the difference between blue and green!
