Richard Ahern Obituary

Ahern, Richard John
East Rochester: August 25, 2008 at age 74 after a short but intense battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Aurelia; his daughter, Pamela (Lynn) Larsen of East Rochester; sons, David (Heidi) Ahern of KY & Douglas (Cassie) Ahern of Malta, NY; twin brother, Douglas (Teddy) Ahern of Penfield; his 9 beloved grandchildren, Jessica, Mallory, James & Eric Larsen, Alexandra & Brooke Ahern and Nicholas, Maddilyn & Michael Ahern; 5 nephews, Mitchell, the late Mark & Chris Ahern, Gregg & Tim Wicktor and a niece, Lisa Wicktor.
Richard was a US Army Veteran who proudly served his country. He had his own business, AMD Advertising for many years. One of the great joys of his life was to serve for 19 years as the public relations director for the Hill Cumorah Pageant. Richard's life was devoted to God, his family and his friends. He appreciated the simple things in life and loved music, looking for seashells at the beach, gardening and animals. He spent many happy hours with his family and dear friends in Nantucket.
Friends may call THURSDAY EVENING 6-9pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 460 Kreag Road Fairport, NY where Richard's funeral service will be held FRIDAY at 10:00am. Interment in White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Nicholas Ahern's Mission Fund, care of Bishop David Morgan, 70 Benedict Road, Pittsford, NY 14534 or The Shepherd Home, 1959 Five Mile Line Road Penfield, NY 14526.
"Our family would like to thank Dr. Rena Pine, his longtime doctor & friend; all the angels at the Shepherd Home, especially Ann Raas & Anne Romano for their gentle love & care; his hospice caregivers, Judy & Jill and all of his dear sweet friends for their constant love & support."

I remember Brother Ahern directing a road show that won our ward the highest accolades. He was patient and professional and set a great example. He had a good sense of humor about me actually believeing that he was secretly in the mafia; thanks to his own sons. Brother Ahern shared his voice, hitestimony and his life with us. We will miss him.

Dear Aherns- I'll always remember his amazing, clear voice. I was 14 when he sang at my mother's funeral, but he sang often and shared his talents. He taught you all to do the same. I haven't thanked you enough for sharing your talents at my brother's funeral. You are a beautiful, and beloved family. We love you.

Rel, Pam, Dave, Doug, and family,
I am so saddened to hear of the passing of your wonderful husband, father and grandfather. I remember when your family joined the church so long ago, and all the times a beautiful baritone voice brought the spirit into our meetings, including at our mother's funeral. I loved being part of Pageant and helping others to "Come Feel the Savior's Love." You are all beloved friends and my prayers are with you.

Sister Rel Ahern,
I pray that the truths of the gospel and the service and love of friends, family, and church members will bring you and your family comfort and peace, now and in the coming years. Your family was so sweet to bless and comfort my family one year ago at my brother's funeral - Thank you again for that. All the Andersons love you!

Ahern Family,

While sitting at a stop light today I received and email from Blair Beavers title Dick Ahern. My heart sunk because I knew exactly what the content was with out reading it. The first thing that comes to my mind is Dick's friendly smile and the love he had for the youth. Even though we've been way from Rochester for many years I know he'll be deeply missed in the church and the community.

As my thoughts went over the years we spent serving at the Hill Cumorah and our association with Dick, many fond memories came and they made me smile. I remembered thinking the first few years I was there that Dick knew everyone! He was so supportive of the workcrew and always made sure they were taken care of. Whenever I wear my Cumorah pin I will remember how excited he was to make sure each one of the workcrew boys received one. He was a great example of service, missionary work, and the Savior. We are better because of our association with him, and although we will miss him, we know all the work he must be engaged in now will continue to build the kingdom. Our love is with Rel and all Dicks family. His values will live on through another generation.

I've always thought of Bro. and Sister Ahern as 'pillars' of the church in this area. Mike and I would delight to ask Bro. Ahern about the behind the scenes of the pageant with the work that he did with public relations. He was wonderful. I didn't even know he was sick. I feel sad that he has passed on. I really appreciate him.

Rel -- I can hardly believe it. It has been years since you were my YW leader, when I really grew attached to you and your sweetie. Years later, I STILL talk about you and Dick and the fun and laughs we had, talking about how Dick fell asleep on the stand on Sundays, and the amazing examples you have been to many. I still remember the day he sang and cried -- because he always cries right! - at my mission farewell. He will truly be missed - a true gentle giant. I am so grateful for the knowledge that relationships will last forever. My love and prayers are with you and your family.

It is hard to think about NY and the Pageant without thinking about some wonderful people. Rel, you and Dick are on that list. You are in my prayers and certainly my thoughts. With much love, Ginger Hulet

Dick is one of those special people who is able to light up a room when he walks into it. He is always very positive, confident and he has a way of making people feel special. Heaven is a lucky place to have such a bright spirit return. We miss him terribly.

Brother Ahern has been a part of my life in the church for many years. His laughter, his song and his kindness have been powerful examples to me. He showed his love for life and his ability to relate its experiences every time I saw him.
He will be gaining new experiences now and will be sharing those with those who have gone before us. I look forward to hearing him sing with the angles and thrill me with the power of what he has done in the life he now lives.

Dear Ahern & Larson Families,

My heart is full with the joy of Bro. Ahern's new mission call and that he will share his testimony with more family and friends that are still waiting. I am sad that he is away from all of you for awhile. I know that the Lord has an eternal plan for all of us and Bro. Ahern completed the earthly part of that plan/mission.
I pray that Heavenly Father will bless you with comfort and love during these difficult days of loss. Hold tight to the love, memories and examples Bro. Ahern shared with all of you and us.
He was a wonderful man that will be missed dearly by all those who loved & knew him.
I will miss his smile whenever I saw him.
