Taylor, Ruby H.
Rochester: Ruby H. Taylor, Early Childhood Advocate, dies of Cancer. Ruby H. Taylor, a pillar in the community and pioneer in Early Childhood Development here in Rochester who worked to develop and implement federal & state regulations governing Special Needs Children, died of cancer on Monday at Strong Memorial Hospital. She was 71.
Ms. Taylor was a leader and active member of the Greater Rochester Community. a gifted singer and musician and community volunteer. She was the first African-American Speech Pathologist in the Rochester City School District. She was Director of the Twixt 3 & 5 Program, President of the Board of the Anthony L. Jordan Health Center from 1986-1990, and one of the original organizers and founders of the Early Childhood Intervention Council of Monroe County, which created better systems for families and children with disabilities. Ms. Taylor was a pillar in the community; a professional of unwavering integrity who offered leadership, love, guidance and inspiration to countless people her life has touched.
Ms. Taylor is survived by mother, Evia L. Beatty; daughter, Natalie R. Taylor; son, Nathaniel Taylor II; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 11am at Memorial AME Zion Church, 549 Clarissa Street, Rochester. Donations in her name can be sent to Community Child Care Center, 170 Troup Street, Rochester, NY 14608.
