Carol Eckberg Obituary

Eckberg, Carol Wickes
Ft. Collins, CO: Loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. Born in 1927 in Rochester, NY to Henry H. Wickes and Emily Boynton Wickes. Graduated from Mount Holyoke College. After graduation, she worked as a social worker. In 1950 she married Douglas Reeves Eckberg. They lived in Rochester until 1974 when they moved to Ft. Collins, CO. Douglas preceded her in death in 1997. She is survived by her 3 children: Kristin Reif (Peter) CO, James (Eunice) NY, Eric (Lettie) MN; and 4 grandchildren: David and Laura Marchelya, Nathan and Dan Eckberg; brother-in-law John Eckberg (Sally), sisters-in-law Carol Wadsworth (Jim), Mary Elizabeth Coverdale (Scott); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends. In addition to her great love of family, she volunteered her time tutoring both in Rochester and Ft. Collins, assisted in Sunday School at Third Presbyterian Church, and delivered Meals on Wheels for twenty years. Her summers, for 81 years, were spent at Vine Valley on Canandaigua Lake. She enjoyed canoeing and swimming. She has touched many people's lives with her optimistic outlook, enthusiasm, and thoughtfulness. She cherished her many friendships, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Memorial Service will be held at Vine Valley Methodist Church, Thursday, Sept. 11th at 11:00 am. A Celebration of Life will be planned a few weeks from now in Ft Collins, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vine Valley Methodist Church, PO Box 544 Rushville, NY 14544 or Third Presbyterian Church, 4 Meigs St., Rochester, NY 14607, or to The Neuropathy Association, 60 E. 42nd St., #942, NY, NY 10165.

Carol was one of the finest people I have ever met. She always brought a smile to my face when she appeared. You had the gift of making you feel as if you were very special.. I will miss her.
Nan Ide and I used to talk to her at lenght when she dropped by the studio and we had such nice talks...
