Catherine Duffy Obituary

Duffy, Catherine Cuddihy
Perinton/formerly of Rochester. Died on September 22, 2008. She was born November 16, 1915 and was 92 years old when she passed away. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Cornelius (Neil) Duffy; three sons, Gerard (Janette) of Bethesda, Md., Neil (Meredith) of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Robert (Barbara) of Rochester; grandchildren, Maureen (Chris) Darcy, Erin and Shannon Duffy, Daniel and Katie Duffy and Christopher Owen; along with great-grandson, Colin Darcy; and several nieces and nephews.
Catherine was predeceased by her parents, John and Helen Cuddihy and the Cuddihy family, including her beloved brother, Robert Cuddihy; and sister Molly Caple.
Catherine graduated from Nazareth College and was a member of the Sisters of Saint Joseph (SSJ), for 13 years. As Sister Frances Patricia, she taught at Immaculate Conception School in Rochester, St. Michael's in Penn Yan, and St. Agnes in Avon. Catherine received permission from the Catholic Church to leave the Sisters of Saint Joseph in June of 1946. She met Neil later that year and they were married on April 12, 1947.
Catherine's teaching career continued as Mrs. Duffy and she taught at the Harley School, St. Ambrose, St. Anthony's, Holy Rosary, and completed her career as a teacher with 18 years in the Greece School District, retiring in 1981.
Catherine was an extraordinary woman. She was orphaned by the age of 12 years old and her family became the most important part of her life. She was a living example of a loyal and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, whose combination of love, faith, and strength became her trademark. The 61-year marriage of Catherine and Neil was a classic love story through her very last day.
A special thank you to the wonderful staff of the Highlands Living Center of Pittsford, for their loving care and compassion.
Calling hours, Friday, September 26th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, Egypt Location at 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Road, Fairport. To Neil and family:
Linda and I want to express our sincere smpathy in Kay's passing. We enjoyed the good times together back in the Taylor years and in seeing your boys mature as students and become successful.
Neil, I especially hold dear the many rides we shared to and from work.
Linda and I now live in Georgia near Dan, Julie and their two children. Kevin and his wife Candyce live in Seattle.
We don't get to Rochester often. When we do, it is to spend time with Linda's Mother in Cortland and my Dad in Farmington.
Love, Jim and Linda

My deepest sympathy to you. We knew your Mom and Dad when they lived near us in Florida and they were two of the sweetest people we have ever met. She always was so happy to return to Rochester to be with her family and especially the grandchildren. God Bless you and keep those wonderful memories.

Mayor Duffy, my deepest condolences to you and your family on your loss.

“In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen! O God of spirits, and of all flesh, Who hast trampled down death and overthrown the Devil, and given life to Thy world; Do Thou, the same Lord, give rest to the soul of Thy departed servant Catherine in a place of brightness, a place of refreshment, a place of repose, where all sickness, sighing, and sorrow have fled away. Pardon every transgression which she has committed, whether by word or deed or thought. For Thou art a good God and lovest mankind; because there is no man who lives yet does not sin; for Thou only art without sin; Thy righteousness is to all eternity; and Thy word is truth. For Thou art the Resurrection, the Life, and the Repose of Thy servant who is fallen asleep, O Christ our God, and unto Thee we ascribe glory, together with Thy Father, Who is from everlasting, and Thine all-holy, good, and life-creating Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.”

God bless you in your time of sorrow.
